If you’re the partner of a New Zealand citizen or resident, you can apply for a Partnership Residence Visa to live in New Zealand permanently. With this visa, you and any dependent children under 24 (who aren’t married or in a civil union) can live, work, and study in New Zealand forever. (Children aged 21–24 must still depend on you financially.) If your partner’s New Zealand residency comes from their Australian citizenship or visa, they need to be living in New Zealand for you to qualify.

If your partner is a New Zealand citizen and you’ve lived together overseas for at least five years, you can also apply for a Permanent Resident Visa. To qualify, your partner must either still be abroad when you apply or have come back to New Zealand less than three months before your application.
